Leh is one of the most beautiful and easily reachable destinations in Leh Ladakh. Famous for its barren beauty and Buddhist monasteries, Leh is a wonderful destination for adventure lovers. Leh offers some magnificent trekking trails that take one to a number of scenic spots. Leh is not only about adventure sports but the beautiful town also has a number of tourist attractions like Shanti Stupa and Leh Palace. Leh is the headquarters of Ladakh and is located in the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Tourist places in and around Leh
Leh situated at an altitude of about 3,505 metres above sea level has a number of tourist places that one can visit. Shanti Stupa, though a recent addition to Leh's tourist attractions, is a fine monument that was built by Ladakhis in association with Japanese. The Shanti Stupa in Leh has relics of the Buddha and most people visit the stupa on their tour to Leh. Shanti Stupa has another beautiful side to it besides being associated with the Buddha. Shanti Stupa is also a wonderful place to capture the beauty of the Leh valley. The place offers stunning view of the Leh valley.

Leh Palace is another beautiful attraction in Leh. Many people compare Leh Palace with the Potala in Lhasa, Tibet. Leh Palace was built in the 17th century and was once the residence of the royal family of Leh. Namgyal Hill is another tourist attraction just above the palace that one can visit.

The monasteries in Leh make other popular tourist attractions. But the Namgyal Tsemo Gompa is one monastery that's worth mentioning. The Gompa is believed to built in 1430 and houses a huge image of the Buddha. The other two popular monasteries that you can visit include Sankar Gompa and Alchi Gompa.
